There are several music forums that you can participate in such as Classical Music Forum, Progressive Rock Music Forum, etc. It's a great place to find new music from music lovers, just like you! There's a music review section where you can post your own reviews of music (much like what I do here) and you can also check out other people's recommendations.

Not only can you discuss music, there's another neat section for other arts where you can discuss architecture, painting and photography. The community is super friendly. You can show off your art pieces in this section and receive friendly reviews and input about it. If you're one of those cool art kids, this is for you!!

This forum is also great for musicians. There's a section where members can review your music and site! You can also network with other musicians in a separate section.

The forum is super friendly, highly active (there's always something new to read and discuss when you login). Why not give it a shot?

Track of The Day

It's almost the holidays and for some reason this track sounds christmasy, but its not! This isn't not rock or electro.. it's not even indie! it's French pop. What!? Dare I say pop? Why is it posted here!? Well.. I must admit that I enjoy listening to Alizee's tracks.. maybe they're the vocals? I guess french class in junior high didn't make me hate listening to french music! (We use to re-listen to the same songs everyday for a week to help us prepare for a spelling quiz on the lyrics!). Anyways, Alizee is pretty popular in France. Some of her tracks are.. filled with jumpy piano keys, cheesy old school synths, drum machines (sometimes). Yeah, I know that makes her tracks sound cheesy.. but other tracks have strings, guitars, and real drums! (Those are her best tracks in my opinion). The vocals are so perfect.. like.. wow, she's got talent. The tracks are shamefully awesome, seriously.

Have a listen to "J'ai Pas Vingt Ans" It's the best track out of the rest in my opinion. It also sounds more "modern" than the rest of her tracks. You can disregard the description above for this track 'cause there are guitars and real good beats on this track! I love it! (P.S: The lyrics are pretty sweet if you can understand it!)

Fav Tracks
J'ai Pas Vingt Ans
Hey Amigo
Lui ou Toi
J'en ai Marre
Moi Lolita

The Soho Dolls, electro with a rock edge

The Soho Dolls, electro with a rock edge. Often compared to Goldfrapp.. but I don't hear the similarity. Check out their track 'Stripper', nothing like Goldfrapp's Strict Machine at all. Yeah, they both use synths, so what? You can hear a hint of Marilyn Manson influence in this track with their thick synth bass line and rocking beats intro. But other than that, there's nothing else like this out there.

http://www.sohodolls.co.uk

Can you say stripper music?

Well ana you're late
And maya, i'm here.
The boys in the band,
Decide to appear.
We walk through the door
Savour the air.
The girls on the floor,
I've come here to stare.
We've come here to stare.

Yeah

Dont touch the girls,
Dont kiss the girls,
I have the right to pull the girls.
Get in a fight,
On every night,
The scratches, the bruises and the bites.
But i wanna touch,
And i wanna kiss,
And if you say no then i will persist,
With you tonight,
You'll make it right.
You know that you're wetting my appetite.

You can call me x,
You can call me y,
You can call me z,
You can come and try.
Come and try.

Dont know what you think you're doing to me,
(Hey! But anyways, it's kind of late but.. if you haven't checked out Kasabian's new album "Empire" you must go out and get it RIGHT now!!! go!!! Their first track, Empire is their greatest track of all time; With fast pulsing bass and pounding beats, how could you not agree?

If you want to sample the song for the first time, just head over to youtube and type in kasabian. (The intro to their music video Empire is kind of long, but be patient! It's worth it.)

Click Here to view the video

Track of The Day: 80's BABY!

I love those chorus/echoe-y effects on the female vocals; The guitars are crazy funky and the beats are dangerously catchy!
Cruel Summer - Banarama

Emily Haine's New Solo Album

Emily Haines (the lead singer of Metric) went on Much on Demand today promoting her new solo album, Knives Don't Have Your Back. Her new solo album is very melodic (with piano keys of course) and a depressing sounding feel to it.

The video was also premiered on Much Music. It was quit strange... she was in a department store (similar feeling to Zellers or Walmart); Then she ran over to the pharmacy section of the store but the lights turned off... then this person appeared out of no where.. then she knocked him down which caused a huge domino effect of other people falling down to the ground. Then the video ends with her running into her car...

Before the video was shown, Emily said that there was a cameo with Sebastian from Death From Above 1979 r.i.p but I probably missed him while watching the video since it was so "dreamy" (like what the VJ stated). He must have been one of the many people falling down to the ground!

Check out Emily's new album: Knives Don't Have Your Back in stores now :)

Track of The Day: PARTY!!

Check it out!
Their Party Days - Magneta Lane

Metric's Performance @ S.A.C

Well, Metric was fashionable late.. by one hour! Oh boy did they have a huge tour bus. BUT the performance was WORTH the wait! I rarely say this, but they sound better live than in their album tracks!

When they performed Poster of a Girl, it sounded a million times better than the recording! Seriously! The recording sounde pretty mellow to me, but when it was performed live it was sooo upbeat; There was so much energy, loud beats and synths! Metric also performed the good old track Dead Disco which made the crowd go wild. The whole performance was fucking awesome!

P.S: I think they're getting too popular (nooooo!), Emily left the stage right after the last track and didn't even said 'thank you' or good bye.. and the other members left after.. and some guy who was organizing this event thanked their fans for them. Hmm.. Oh well, I still love them! I'm sure they were just exhausted.

Magneta Lane's Performance @ Hart House

I was so happy that Magneta Lane was performing on campus yesterday (since I thought there would only be a Weakerthans & Metric performance); So... when I heard that they would be at the Hart House, I was like "Oh my god" (in a valley girl's accept, I kid you not) to my cousin so.. I dragged her along to it.

Dude, the bass guitarist French sure knows how to dance/stomp during the whole performance. She was stomping to the beats and chords, was pretty cool! The girls didn't really have any expressions on their faces at all.. like they were dead (It's an odd thing to notice I know), ahh they're too cool for that! (BTW: That was a compliment, and I suck at writting compliments ok?). I'm also still struck by how awesome the drummer was, damn!

Oh, and they performed "Party Days" which is one of my favorite tracks, so that was a treat! They also performed their new single which I can't wait to hear on the radio? If they don't play it often I'll never listen to the radio ever again!

At the end of the show, I asked the drummer for an autograph (I don't know why) and while she was signing I said "I loooove your music! How long have you been doing this?" and she replied "Thankyou. 3 years." Ok.. I should have said something else. Anyways, it's just a signed piece of paper which means nothing in the end, but it was cool to see them live! Their music is so awesome, I blare it out loud to annoy the neighbors and to.. of course enjoy great indie stuff! I saw two of my favorite bands in ONE night!

Tokyo Police's Performance @ Hart House

September 8, 2006 S.A.C day at the University of Toronto
These dudes from Tokyo Police are the most polite and kind people out there; They were really friendly and interactive with the audience, which was great! These Winnipeger folk/punk/rock band sounded awesome live! Yeah, it isn't really my favorite band.. I've only heard one track before seeing them live 'cause my friend recommended them to me... Anywho, it must have been a special performance 'cause the lead singer wore sun glasses on stage for the first time; It started off when he was squinting 'cause the sun was in his eye, so this girl gave him her oversized sunglasses to borrow. Haha, well you that it's that time of the year to shop for new cloths and whatnot. Well.. I have an addiction to ebaying stuff because it's easy (taking the bus then subway for an hour, just to get to the Eaton's Centre is not fun!). On Ebay, I bought this awesome Dakine backpack for a little over $30 USD with shipping from the UK!!! What a deal!!! After it arrived to my house in Toronto, I stick on my Strokes & Vines patch on it. Oh yeah, I'm prepared for uni.

THE BEST thing about ebay is purchasing hard to find band t-shirts. If you're tired of those plain over sized black My Chemical Romance or Beatles t-shirts you find everywhere in major chained retail stores in malls (perfect for posers), CHECK out Ebay! The shirt that I'm really really looking for is the 'Karma Police' Radiohead vintage styled t-shirt (Ebay up: karma police).

ANOTHER GOOD Ebay find: I found this awesome auction for 2 Tegan and Sara poster (signed) with this... yellow band t-shirt! I loved the t-shirt (it was in small)! The bid started off at $5 but went up to $47 so I'm.. on a student budget this month and I have to miss this one.

PATCHES TOO: I bought 4 patches from ebay so far (The Strokes, The Vines, 2 Red Hot Chili Pepper ones), but I don't want to "over-patch." Priches can range from $3 - $10 (with shipping).

Strip Shirts for.. Indie Kids? Maybe the strip clothing has been overdone (darn you kids), but I still love them. I found lots of nice strip shirts at H&M this month (at a GOOD price too! $20 and up).

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://indiekool.blogspot.com/2006/09/music-related-merch-cloths-style.html' title='Music Related Merch, Cloths & Hawksley Workman is an awesome Canadian artist who's been writting music since 199something. Anyways, my friend has always LOVED him; I remember last year when she showed me the strangest poem book that Mr. Hawksley wrote himself. Oh ya, it was creative but the fat naked women sketches blinded my eyes, hah sorry. OH, and those Hawksley pics all over our locker.. And... darn she's soo gonna marry him. *sigh* the last year of High school, oh what fun times it was.

OK, now... I'm going to post some news: Last month during the Winnipeg's Folk Festival (at Bird's Hill Park) my friend.. meet.. Hawksley Workman! Yes, the stalker (I'm just kidding) was so happy about it (yay Mandie!); This was her second time of meeting him, I think the first time was at the... uh oh I can't remember: West End Cultural centre or the Burton Cummings Theatre? See how simple it is to make someone's day?

NOW onto some music stuff: If you like creative acoustic tracks that's not so grungy.. dare I say maybe a bit poppy? If you like Lenny Kravitz, you may like Mr. Hawksley too (but Hawksley Workman is much more creative!). Check out Hawksley Workman TODAY! go!! go!!

Recommended Tracks:
We Will Still Need A Song (A lovely happy acoustic-y song)
Striptease (The name says it all, filled with awesome synths!!!!)

Hawksley Workman @ Myspace: www.myspace.com/hawksleyworkman
Website: www.hawksleyworkman.com

Track of The Day: You'll get it stuck in your head all day

Lets bring back some old Franz Ferdinand stuff. This duo is signed to Neil Young'a label, Vapor Records. Members of the band Tegan and Sara include Tegan Quin, Sara Quin, Johnny Five Andres, Rob Chursinoff, Chris Carolson and Ted Gowans.

Review:
When I'm looking to listen to some pretty nice calm acoustic music, I listen to Tegan and Sara. Why? Because each of their track is unique (you can actually differentiate every song from each other).

For certain tracks like "The First" they can add aggression to their tracks without electric guitars, just solely using their vocals. That's talent, being able to create such sweet melodies and hard angry tracks using the same instruments and just change of vocal tones.

Each second is a hook, literally! Their tracks aren't filled with boring fillers and one catchy chorus like what you'd find in most Top 40 hits; Everything that comes out of their mouths, guitars and drums is candy for the ears!

Best Tracks:
Days and Days
Monday, Monday, Monday
Superstar
Come On
Walking With The Ghost

Tegan and Sara @ Myspace: www.myspace.com/teganandsara
Website: www.teganandsara.com
Second Photo Credit: 95bfm.com

Track of The Day: Dance to DFA 1979

Here's a remix to one of Death From Above 1979's track, Little Girl. Here are 2 tracks I've found out worth checking out:

1. Walking With The Ghost by Tegan and Sara: The guitar riffs are so catchy; A bit repetitive like the lyrics, but it's so damn good! There's a quiet synth somewhere in the track for a short period that makes the track slightly fuller.
2. Gold Lion by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs: Again, awesome guitar riffs and chorus. The beats are so catchy, they are slow and simple but they guide the guitar riffs to the next chords; That's why they add so much more to the track! After listening to this track you're going to have to vocals "Gold Lion's gonna tell me where the light is, take our hands out of control, take our hands out of control" stuck in your head all day!

- Enjoy!

The Future's Elevator Music..

I was browsing around tracks, looking for new music (as usual) til I came across "Just Breathe" by "Telepopmusik." Have a listen to their track "Pull The Wool" , it sounds like a type of track that The Strokes would have produced in their earlier days... The only difference I could find is that the vocals aren't 'lazy/'let's chill' like the Stroke's old track 'Is This It.' These boys have energy! Energy that will wake you up with indie coolness!

'Who invited you' has an awesome drum solo in the beginning that'll make you wanna start air-drumming! Their last track on their Myspace page will surely make you wonder 'Why the heck isn't this band signed!? AND when their album will be out!" Yeah guys, release an album! Even if they're burnt CDs with cheap plastic cases, it's all about the music eh?

Why are they not signed? They definitely have talent, but I think it's the lack of originality? I'd love to hear them add something different to the music that The Strokes hasn't yet... But this band has soooo much potential and it's only the beginning!!!

* Check out their Myspace page to download some of their tracks.

Right on Dynamite @ Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/rightondynamite

Bacon Bandages... yummy!

This is a little off topic but I'm gonna post it here anyways because it's so hilarious! During my vacation to Victoria Island, my friend brought me to this store called "Uranus" in Courtney, BC. There were a bunch of weird and funny knick-knacs there, but the one that caught my eye was the tin of bacon bandages! They weren't made up of real bacon of course (can you imagine the pain from the salt touching your wound? nuh-uh!); There was just a graphic print of a bacon. Now, when I went to the airport to check in, the security people asked me "do you have any liquids, blah blah blah" and I stated no, no, no, no. As they scanned my carry-on bag through it didn't work; A security lady had to look through my bag manually and then she discovered...OH NO... OH NO.... my tin of bacon bandages; Oh of course she had to stop, open it up and laugh like crazy! She even showed it to the other security personnels nearby. Ha, and that's all I'm going to talk about during my vacation to British Columbia... but don't get me wrong, I did better stuff here like go up Mount Washington, hiking, whale watching and all that jazz but who really wants to read about it in a music blog?

Track of The Day: Walk around in the streets listening to this track

Check out this nice calm indie/alternative sounding track; It's not really a track you can really dance to, but you can definitly walk around the streets with this track on low volume.
Naive - The Kooks

Vive La Fête - They're Indie AND Electro

About:
Vive la fete is a duo electro group from Belium; Els Pynoo and Danny Mommens make up this electro duo. They have been making music (with mainly french based lyrics) since 1997.

Review:
Vive La Fête's music is very dance-able because of their pulsing synths and beats; Els's vocals add something extra to the tracks that I can't figure out exactly what it is.. but without her vocals, the tracks would not be as addictive! Tracks such as Maquillage and Nuit Blanche are emotion-less lyrics and music; The plain typical dance beats and pulsating deep synths hook you to the track instantly like drugs. And one more thing, their tracks also sound like music that could be played in high fashion runway shows.

Below are the best tracks I've found out of all of their releases; Why are they my favorite? Because they do not have cheesy sounding vocals, synths or beats (trust me, most electro tracks are dangerously cheesey).

Best Tracks:
Maquillage
Noir Desir
Nuit Blanche

Vive La Fête @ Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/viiivelafete
Website: www.vivelafete.be

Calm Chill Mix

Here is my personal calm chill / morning mix / playlist for you; It is filled with tracks that are easy on the ears and music that you can fall asleep to. They brings a darker sound to dance music; Their track "The Rejection" features repetitive, but catchy synth chords, plain 4 x 4 vintage bass drum beats (with the classic hand claps of course!) and whispery vocals singing catchy lyrics throughout the whole track. Their other track "Apart" is another whispery-vocals-dark-dance-track, but it isn't as innovative as their first track… But overall, their releases will surely revive your music collection!

Dangerous Muse @ Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/dangerousmuse
Website: www.dangerousmuse.com
